Chesapeake Country Scenic Byway est désignée All-American Road.

Les circuits routiers les plus exceptionnels sont les routes panoramiques qui ont été désignées All-American Roads par la Federal Highway Administration. Ces routes présentent des intérêts archéologiques, culturels, historiques, naturels, récréatifs et panoramiques d'importance nationale que vous ne retrouverez nulle part ailleurs aux Etats-Unis. 
 

Jour 1: Culture, plages et navigation à Chesapeake

Chesapeake City

La ville est située le long du canal historique Chesapeake et Delaware qui relie la Baie de Chesapeake au fleuve Delaware. Visitez le Chesapeake & Delaware Canal Museum qui raconte l’histoire de ce canal long de 22km, l’un des deux canaux commercialement importants des États-Unis.

Betterton Beach

Au 18ème siècle, Betterton était un petit port de pêche. C’est aujourd’hui un parc paysagé de 2 hectares, doté d’une plage de sable bordant une façade nautique de 152m et de 213m de littoral accessible.

Rock Hall

Rock Hall est connu sous le nom de “Perle de Chesapeake”. Louez un bateau, régalez-vous de poissons frais, allez vous détendre sur une plage de la Baie de Chesapeake ou visitez le musée de la marine à Haven Harbour Marina.

Chestertown

Située sur les rives du fleuve Chester, Chestertown est le lien avec l’héritage maritime de la Baie de Chesapeake. Il abrite la réplique du Schooner Sultana (bateau du 18ème) et vous pourrez flâner dans son quartier colonial. Les bâtiments historiques sont la toile de fond idéale pour qui aime déambuler le long de trottoirs en briques rouges, jeter un coup d’œil par-dessus les murs des jardins, découvrir magasins d’antiquité, galeries, boutiques spécialisées et enfin, s’attarder à une terrasse de café.

Chesapeake Exploration Center

“Our Chesapeake Legacy” est le nom d’une exposition interactive offrant une vue d’ensemble de l’héritage, des ressources et de la culture de la région. Vous comprendrez mieux la relation qui unit l’homme à la Baie.

Jour 2: Petites villes, plaisir en famille et excursions dans la nature

Easton

L’une des plus jolies petites villes américaines. Visitez le Musée d’Art Académique et le centre de culte Quaker puis allez flâner le long des rues bordées d’élégantes demeures victoriennes, de boutiques et de restaurants alléchants.

St. Michaels

Découvrez le Musée Maritime de la Baie de Chesapeake, riche d’un chantier naval en activité, d’un phare de 1879 rénové et de nombreuses activités pour les enfants. Goûtez au délicieux cake de crabe en profitant d’une vue panoramique sur le port puis allez vous faire dorloter au Linden Spa, centre de bien-être de l’hôtel Inn at Perry Cabin.

Cambridge

Cette station balnéaire vous offrira la possibilité d’aller pêcher le thon en mer, de faire des circuits en bateau et d’aller explorer le tout proche Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge, plus vaste zone de nidification de pygargues (aigles) de la Côte Est.
